Week 2 - A few questions for you!

Dear 1st year students,

this week, I would like for you to answer two questions (in English obviously!!!).

1) What are the pull factors of your city/town/village? 2) And what are the push factors that make people want to go there?

I will start and this will provide you with an example of the type of text that I would like for you to produce.

I come from a village which is located between Siena and Grosseto: Civitella Marittima. There are only a few tourists there, even if it is a very nice area. The main pull factors as far as my village is concerned are the unspoilt countryside, the medieval setting, an excellent restaurant and the good position to go on daytrips and to visit the most popular destinations in Southern Tuscany. The push factors for the tourists who come to my village are the love of nature and art, the desire to experience authentic Tuscany, the desire to experience life in a small medieval hilltop village, the love of good food and wine and the desire to find accommodation at a relatively low price, and yet to be close to the most famous sights in the region.

  5. Hello teacher. I’m Grazia and I come from Cisternino,a little village in Puglia in the province of Brindisi. My little town is really particular because it offer the occasion to live both in the fantastic seesight of sea and in the fresh mountaain air. In fact it is situated on a hill, but the other side of the town rises itself on a not very tall mountain; morevover, near my town there is another little village that flows into the sea. So it a sort of little paradise, in which sea, mountain and hill coexist. It is also a very kind village and it has got a lot of meeting place for every class of age, from the very young, that use to meet in the pinewood, to the oldest, that usually find each other in bars or in the main town street. The tourists are usually attracted by visiting Cisternino because it is famous for the rich production of meat, so that it is generally known in the neighbouring towns that in the storic centre of Cisternino it is possible to become accustomed to the smell of roasted meat. I think it attracts tourists also because of the characteristics houses of the storic centre, which recall the ancient ways of building of an old contryside town. Cistenino also offers the splendid seesight of Valle d’Itria,by which tourists are extremely fascinated. Therefore Cisternino is a small town that offers not only meeting places for young and old, but also a lot of green parks and a fantastic seessight, observing which the tourist can rediscover the personal dimension and relax.

  21. I live in a small village called Porcari that is about fifteen kilometres far from Lucca. It is not a tourist village so there are not many hotels or restaurants or other type of accommodation. It is situated near bigger and more famous towns like Pisa, Firenze, Viareggio and other picturesque and medieval villages like Montecarlo, Altopascio. So it is a strategic place to be connected to different reality of the Tuscany: in one hand touristy towns for people that love seeing famouse centres of tourism, and in the other hand quiet and small villages in the countryside for people the love escaping routine. So the tourists that arrive to Porcari have only to choose where to go ,following their preferences.
